What We Do

One + One is a vibrant acoustic duo featuring Sophie McCarlie on vocals and Samuel Leaper on guitar/ piano. Their versatile sound ranges from lively, upbeat songs to laid-back lounge music, perfectly tailored to suit any venue or event. Both studied at the University of Otago with degrees in music and performing arts, they bring over two decades of performance experience, allowing them to engage seamlessly with audiences while delivering a polished show.

Drawing from a diverse repertoire, their continually expanding list of covers includes timeless classics by artists such as ABBA, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, and The Beatles, as well as contemporary favourites from the likes of Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift.

Whether performing at local venues, weddings, or private functions, One + One captivates with their chemistry and passion for music creating an enjoyable environment for all ages.

Based in Dunedin but can travel.

About Us

Born and raised in Nelson, Sophie is currently studying for a Bachelor of Performing Arts at the University of Otago. Sophie has been singing and performing her whole life and has had the opportunity to work with and learn from industry professionals, nationally and internationally.

With extensive experience in musical theatre, Sophie has taken on a variety of leading roles, including Cosette in Les Misérables, Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Molly in Ghost, Ronette in Little Shop of Horrors, Grizabella in Cats, Rizzo in Grease, and Donna in Mamma Mia

Sophie has represented New Zealand for theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and was honoured to receive Six60’s scholarship, which provided her with the opportunity to live at 660 Castle Street.

Samuel Leaper

Born and raised in Dunedin, Samuel graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Music. With many accolades to his name. Samuel has spent time touring New Zealand with various bands, living in 660 Castle Street as an inaugural recipient of Six60’s scholarship, and now works as a live sound engineer, mixing local and touring acts throughout Dunedin and the South Island.

Samuel also works as a musical director amongst the Dunedin theatre scene. Musical directing credits include: ‘Chicago’, ‘Legally Blonde’, ‘Dusty Springfield in Concert’, and ‘Footloose’ for local societies, as well as ‘Camp Rock The Musical’ and ‘Aladdin Kids’ in Melbourne Australia.
